Part II of the meme here

Describe a person that inspires you.
My mom. She’s that one person who in every which way has made me the person I am today (let me admit, I am still nowhere close to being like her).  I never have needed to go any far to gain inspiration. If I smile through and battle through any odds, it is only because, I remind myself on how she has done it and is still as soft hearted(not soft spoken) as she can be to maintain the do-good attitude without an inkling of hatred for anyone or anything which might have caused her any pain or suffering. She’s so much different to me, is what I always feel, but then, somewhere, I also feel, that, maybe, she was just like me, when she was my age, and may be, just , may be, I might turn out to be like her when I turn her age. Only time will tell.

I have written about a hundred blog posts about various things & many many people that are part of my life. But words have always failed me, when I have tried to write for her, about her. I have never really dedicated even a post for her and I guess I will never be able to do justice even if I try. She had just completed her bachelor in Arts when she got married. Marriage, 2 kids, house-wife stint was the normal norm in her times, yet, she was not satisfied. She enrolled for her B.Ed when we kids grew up to be able to take care of ourselves. Completed it, became a teacher. She didn’t sit idle just like how many of us tend to do once we settle down in the comfort zone of our jobs. After a couple of years, she went on to enroll for M.A and I still remember she studying for her M.A exams alongside me when I used to study for my engineering exams. This, when she had a full time job, no house help and no particular help from husband or us kids too. She completed her M.A and became a lecturer. She then went on to get her M.Phil. degree around the time I got married. In the mean time, once me and brother settled down, she enrolled for her music classes and completed Junior exam and also learnt a 2 wheeler and now is in the process of learning 4-wheeler. All this in spite of we being a typical middle class family which never had any house help or kitchen help around. When I look back, I don’t even know when she had all the time to do all those multiple things, because she has always been perfect at her job, has been a perfect mother and the perfect wife. For me, she is perseverance and hard-work personified.

She has retired from her full time job now, but, never does a minute of her goes wasted, she’s always finding ways to not sit idle even for a minute when the granny-aged-me (yeah, not her) just does that when I get a few minutes to spare. She’s always on the lookout for the next thing to do, always on her toes, always up to something to keep herself busy – learning, creating, helping someone, taking care of my child, cooking, okay, I should just say, just being her. She misses her job and is ready to take on another one, and only my and my brother’s repeated pleas to not do that, has bound her now.  Well, I can go on and on – but then, it will never be enough. So yes, Mom it is!

Describe the last time you were very angry at someone.
Myself. I trust people easily and always end up heartbroken.

Do you want to live until you’re 100?
If I am blessed with forever young and healthy life, why not. Otherwise, NO.

Do people change? If so, how do you keep a relationship together when both of you start to change?
Of course, people change. Maybe the basic nature doesn’t change much, but yes, people do change and adapt based on the experiences they go through in their respective lives. And, in terms of relationships, I guess, if you love each other enough, no change matters that much.

Have you ever risked a friendship by telling someone you liked them?
No, never had such a situation

Would you rather be alone doing something you enjoy, or doing something you don’t like with your best friends?
I would rather be alone doing something I enjoy

Have you ever laughed uncontrollably when it was socially inappropriate?
Story of my life, so, yes, most of the time.

When have you felt most alive?
During live shows like Orchestra/Music shows/Dance performances.

Where would you prefer to live? A city? The suburbs? The countryside? The mountains?
I am not much of a city life person. As I mentioned in the first part of this meme, the quarters that we vacated 2 years back would be the place I would prefer to live.

Do you often skip breakfast?
I used to when at onsite. My breakfast would be just a glass of milk, lunch – just a bowl of fruits and dinner would be an elaborate vegetarian spread cooked carefully by self. Apparently the reason of my gaining weight. I don’t skip breakfast anymore.

Would you want to know the exact date and time you were going to die?
No, I would be in constant fear then.. So, No.

What have you never tried, but would really like to someday? What’s holding you back?
Always have wanted to do these adrenaline-rush activities like bungee jumping, sky diving, hot air balloon rides! What’s holding me back? Well, I want to say, fear, but no, fear didn’t stop me from trying those scariest and longest and steepest roller coaster rides in Universal studios, Disney land or the Six Flags – I tried every ride possible which didn’t manage to scare the group as a whole. I did close my eyes shut and screamed at the top of my lungs the whole time on those scary roller coasters, but I did it!!  So, well, nothing’s holding me back except for a brave company who can tolerate my ear-splitting screams through this *whatsapp-forefinger-on-the-chin-smiley*!

How do you express your creativity?
By writing (I don’t think I write creative stuff, but still), dancing, singing (though am not that good at it), painting, cooking and very recently, zentangling !

Give me the story of your life in six words.
“What the hell is going on”

Phew – That completes the meme
Go on, take it forward and spread the randomness....

Do you believe in a God?
Yes, I do!

Have you ever bought a product from an infomercial?
No!

If you could give up your car and never have to drive again, would you?
I will not give up my car, but I am all game for an arrangement where I don’t have to drive! No second thoughts there!

If you go back to one point in time to give advice to yourself, when would you go and what would you say?
I don’t have any regrets! The decisions I have made in my life has been my own and has made me what I am today. I probably wouldn’t change a thing.

What’s your “quirkiest” habit?
I have many! Don’t know which is the quirkiest! If you know me well, you would know how difficult it is to choose one of those many  I am sure a couple of you who read this can give it a try and let me know which you think is my quirkiest one?

What is the best TV theme song ever?
F.R.I.E.N.D.S and Downtown Abbey

When you were young, what would you dream you would be when you grew up?
I am still young, ahem, ahem, and I still do have dreams, mostly of reading, travelling – basically completing my bucket list items! When I was a kid, I always wanted to be either a teacher or a doctor!

What part of the past year sticks out in your mind?
Past year just zoomed by. But there were times when time stood still and I couldn’t for the life of me understand what exactly was going on…I grew a little (only a little) mature with those experiences. However, what stands out the most, is, my daughter’s fifth birthday which I had to arrange single handedly (I was literally all over the place the whole of June trying to get things done for her big day) and also December last week for its unusual heart-break moments.

What’s the best route to your heart?
Honesty even if truth hurts sometimes. I cannot stand lies from the ones I consider close to me..

Have you ever met someone through the internet, then met them in real life?
Yes.

What is your favorite sport?
I am not much into sports! If I have to pick a favorite, I guess it would be cricket.

What has been troubling you lately?
All the negativity in the social media/news/newspapers.

What do you use more often: your intuition or logical reasoning?
Both I guess. Personal life – I mostly go by my gut feeling!

Tell me about the last book you read.
I completed Deception Point by Dan Brown recently and found it exceedingly boring for the first few chapters as compared to the other 2 popular ones that I have read (multiple times) from the same author. However, it so happened that I had judged the book too soon, and as the plot progressed, I was hooked. Completely un-put-down-able kinda hooked. There are a lot of sequences in the book which is completely unimaginable and you are almost sure that everyone is just gonna just die and you kind of want to get it over with as soon as possible and keep wondering what the rest of the book is about if everyone is dying now, but something happens, and boom, there’s a miraculous escape every single time. It was totally unbelievable that the characters escaped death by seconds so many many many times, but hey, its fiction, and well, that’s kind of what kept me hooked to the book! I read most of chapters towards the end without a single break.

What is the nicest compliment you’ve ever been given?
>> Most of the times, in the past (not to be misinterpreted as when I was young), – I used to get complimented for being very sweeeeeeeeeeeet….I used to feel, Hmmm, Really?
>> My husband takes these power naps of about half an hour whenever he feels like and after such a nap, he is back to life as fresh as a morning dew. I still don’t understand the concept of power naps. I am of that category, where I need half an hour to doze off and a solid 2 to 3 hours of continuous sleep to feel refreshed. Anyways, once during such a nap, my husband woke up suddenly and looked around  with an bewildered expression to the likes of  “main kahaan hoon” (where am I). He found me sitting next to him, relaxed a bit and gave me a very very very sweet smile, kind of assuring himself that he is where he needs to be and then went back to his power nap. Now, I was too startled by his sudden waking up and smiling and all, but I had managed to smile back. After he went back to sleep, I relaxed and realized that he has never smiled so sweetly at me, never ever when he was actually awake! I have till date, not asked him the reason for that sweet smile, and I don’t know if this recognition can be considered as a compliment, but that moment where he recognized me in his semi-sleepy-sub-conscious self is frozen as the sweetest compliment he has ever given me without his knowledge

Who was your first crush?
What the hell is a crush? I have never understood the concept of it. Either you love a person or you don’t. How can you feel something in between?

Do you believe that there is life on other planets?
Yes.

Where is your favorite place to go out and eat?
I am a big foodie. Also, I am supposedly always on diet which isn’t working a bit, I tell you. So it’s quite rare that I eat out, though I love to. Of the recent places I have been to, I totally loved BBQ Nation and Little Italy.

Early bird or night owl?
Night owl!

Are there any childhood possessions you still hold on to?
Yes. Probably a couple of boxes full of such stuff.

I picked this meme up from a fellow blogger -  Posted it in parts as its quite a long one - Originally posted on - 19/03/2017

Are you young at heart, or an old soul?
Depends on the situation! I feel young most of the times – though, I guess, I don’t look so anymore   And I sound like an old soul sometimes too!

What makes someone a best friend?
I guess, in the whole wide world, except for parents, best friend can be only that person who can accept you as you are, without judging you, for even a second

What present do you remember the most?
I remember every single gift I have ever received. I love receiving them and the gesture stays with me forever.

Tell me about a movie/song/TV show/play/book that has changed your life.
Changed my life? Hmmmm, well, there are a lot of books and movies which have made me mull over them for lot many days, made me think beyond the obvious, intrigued me, changed my perspective about a couple of things. But if I have to pick one that has brought about a change in my life, it would have to be the TV series F.R.I.E.N.D.S.  I had missed it when it actually aired for those 10 long years and even though I knew about such a sitcom then, I had never bothered to watch any episode, until after 2 years of its finale episode. Once I started, I knew there was no going back. It’s now the ONE single show that I go back to whenever I just need a break from life! I have watched the show so many times, watched all the bloopers out there, and watched the finale with big fat tears rolling down my eyes, and yet, the show manages to amaze me every single time I watch it!

Name one physical feature that you like about yourself, and one you dislike
Like: My eyes.
Dislike: There’s nothing particularly that I dislike. But I do want to get back to my old slender frame.

What’s more important in a relationship: physical attraction or emotional connection?
Emotional connection, love, trust, honesty and a very good sense of humor!

What holiday do you most look forward to?
Any holiday that comes my way!

Name a song that never fails to make you happy.
I cannot pick one   and as I am tying this, Masakkali from Delhi – 6 is playing on TV and for now, I can say, that this is one of the many many many songs that has never failed to bring a smile on my face

If you could pick anywhere to live the rest of your life, where would it be?
We recently (well, I just realized that it’s about 2 years now) had to vacate the quarters that my mom had got from her University during her tenure. My family has been through its important milestones in this house. My mom’s journey from M.A to M.Phil., mine and my Brother’s graduation, our first jobs, my onsite, my wedding, my baby shower, my delivery, my brother’s higher studies, his wedding, my daughter’s childhood .. A lot and lot of memories associated with that house. When the time came for my parents to vacate and move to their own house, none of us wanted to.  Not even my daughter. She still misses the house and thinks this move is temporary and keeps asking us as to when we are moving back to OUR house. It was the hardest thing we ever had to do as a family.  The house was huge, old styled, red-oxide floors and red tiled roof, with a big garden surrounding the house on all four sides. It didn’t have these modern amenities like a modular kitchen or wardrobe-y bedrooms. It was not our own house as well, and we knew from the beginning, we’d vacate it someday… But when the time came, we couldn’t let go. We almost were ready to even buy that house if the University was ok to part with it, but well, that was not possible. I realized that a house is a home only because of the people in it and the happiness & memories you create with those people. Given a choice, though it’s not our own house, that’s the house, not only me, but we all want to go back to and live there for the rest of our life

Do you drink? Smoke? Do drugs? Why, or why not?
Nope! Just not inclined.

Where was your favorite place to go when you were a little kid?
My maternal grandparent’s place during summer vacation

Have you ever spent a night in the hospital?
Yes, and, I hate it. I hate hospitals and I feel really uncomfortable to even visit someone who is admitted to the hospital even if it is for just a few hours (so much for my childhood dream of becoming a doctor  ).

Do you enjoy being with only one or two friends, or with a large group of people?
Depends. I am mostly an one or two friend’s person.
Well, not that I do not enjoy a large group, but that again depends on the people in that crowd.

Do you like the type of music your parents listen to? Do your parents like the type of music you listen to?
Yes, my parents mostly love the old melodies and well, who doesn’t, so naturally, I like them too. Nothing like those melodies in these days!
As far as my parents are concerned, I am really not sure if they liked the type of music that I and my brother used to play loud on the stereo and dance like crazy. They never stopped us though. They were never strict parents to us lucky kids!

If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Anything from my mom’s kitchen! Anything! If I have to choose just one and have to omit mom’s cooking, then it would be these world famous cutlets that we get here in one of the Udupi restaurants named Diana! If you ever come to Udupi, do visit the restaurant and order cutlets, and I can safely vouch that you’ll never feel the same way for cutlets from anywhere else!
